In the Fall of 2013 my mother started working from home after years of making a long and miserable commute. The problem was that the room she planned to make her office was relatively small and it featured a large bay window that made "using" the space difficult. My solution was the build a custom desk to fit the space and give her ample surface area to work in.
Custom Desk
I started by taking measurements of the room and mapping them out on a sketch up rending of a sheet of ply wood. Cabinet grade lumber is expensive so I needed to be sure that I was making the best possible use of the material.
With sophisticated equipment and work space I started cutting the desk top.
Without access to a shop, I had to miter and bi-sect all of the framing with a circular saw and a speed square. Then a ran it over my Grandfather's router table with an Ogee bit. I also gained some square footage by mending the off-cut to expand one wing of the desk. This project was not well funded, but I was sure to use good wood glue.
We did one final mock up before we added a coat of stain and finish and bolted some legs on.
