Steel Fabrication (various shows)

For a production of Sweeny Todd I was tasked with engineering and producing a modular stair unit that lead up to Judge Turpin's door step and Todd's Parlor. The lower stair units needed to be identical.

Like many projects, the final parameters of the stair case were changing even as the unit was in production. Due to flight-in-restriction, most changes had to be made on the fly or retro-fitted. one example is the tip-jack that made the unit easier to move.

Our welder was a Miller-matic TIG welder. The shop is a narrow corridor in the only area provided with 240V supply, so I had to get creative about fabrication techniques.

12th Night or What You Will at The University of Alabama involved a two-story steel structure at the center of the stage. It was engineered by the Technical Director, Nate White, to have a low profile deck made of stress skin platforming.

The structure had to be rigid enough to accept a three piece orchestra as well as the performers in the show.

On top of producing platforming for the upstage unit, we were tasked with building framing for the signage and passing it off to the electrical department. Here you can see the same signage repurposed for UA's production of 42nd Street which toured to Mobile, Alabama.
